Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has congratulated the British Labor Party and its leader, Mr. Keir Starmer , on their historic victory in the state’s election held on Thursday.

The opposition won a parliamentary majority in the country’s general election, replacing the Conservatives, who had been in power for 14 years. Obi reacted to the development via his official X account on Friday, calling the win a well-deserved honour.

Labour’s standard-bearer for the 2023 presidential election said he hoped the new prime minister would deliver on the campaign promises that gave him a mandate from the British electorate.

He said, “I sincerely congratulate Mr. Keir Starmer and the Lirchinet victory, recorded by the British Workers Party on Thursday’s general election. Want to win a better chapter in all British residents because you are still committed to your own electoral obligation. “I also hope that your government will build stronger ties between the United Kingdom and Nigeria and help deepen our democracy, especially in these challenging times.

“Nigeria is struggling with issues such as insecurity, education, healthcare and poverty and could benefit greatly from UK support. Let’s work together to create a brighter federal future for everyone.

Meanwhile, outgoing chancellor Rishi Sunak conceded defeat on Friday.

Sunak was seen leaving Downing Street where he spoke about the humiliating defeat. He also announced his immediate resignation as leader of the Conservative Party.
