Nigerian singer Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, has set a new record for having the most monthly listeners of any African artist on Spotify. The singer known as the ‘African Giant’ recently reached 46. 84 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
This is more than the previous record of 46. 58 million set by South African singer Tyla. Burna Boy has 47. 3 million people listening to him on Spotify every month, and he is about to be the first African artist to reach 50 million monthly listeners on the platform.
The increase in streams is mostly because of his World Cup song with Shakira, “Dai Dai. ” The song recently reached number one on the Spotify Global Top Songs chart.
This makes Burna Boy the first African artist to take this spot since Wizkid did it in 2016 with his song “One Dance” featuring Drake.
